Some of the most common complaints I hear when I speak with architects are about the lack of communication and lack of transparency within the process. What do you do when you have an issue with one project and you have a ton of other issues? You call the architect, and they want to know what went wrong. You do that. Then you have to explain it over and over again to the architect. I have yet to hear a good answer for this.
This is what we do in corvex. We have a team of architects and designers who do all the design work, and we are the one who communicates. We have regular meetings, but we also have a series of webinars on the go that we use to address specific issues with projects that aren’t quite ready for a full design. We also have a regular website that we make sure we always update.
One of the things that we all have in common is that we all tend to think differently about things, and that makes it difficult to communicate with people who do these kinds of things. By the same token, we all tend to think we know more than we actually do. This is what corvex is about.
If you can’t decide which way to go in a project, you know you’re on the wrong path, and if you don’t like the way you’re thinking, you should probably get out of the way.
I am not sure why we need to think so differently. We all have the same mental model of the world, and that model is simply wrong. We all think that the world is a black and white, right and wrong place. We think that there are three types of people: those who are right and those who are wrong. We all think that there is an end to everything. We all think that there are four categories of people: those who are right and those who are wrong.
When you think about people, you think of them as black-and-white. That is a very clear, linear and rigid way of thinking. But that is not the way that the rest of the world thinks. That is not how most people think. The rest of the world is what’s called a “gray” world. A gray world is where a person is a mixture of all the colors of the rainbow.
In a gray world, we don’t think in black and white. A gray world is most often comprised of shades of gray. In the context of a gray world, there are four colors to consider: red, yellow, green, and blue. They can be mixed together, but they are always in a certain ratio of one to another. Red and green are close together, so yellow and blue are near each other.
The main goal of Corvex Management is to make sure that everything on the team is as good as it can be. We are in a middle-to-tall-and-bigger-than-a-tree situation, so we need to be able to move around a bit more.
With four basic colors to consider, every member of our team is responsible for their own color management. That means the colors that we use each other, the ones that our partners use, and the ones they use for their own use. It also means that we’re all responsible to get those colors right. It’s a balancing act. Because if we’re not able to coordinate our colors, people will get a different shade of color than they should.
I’m not sure if I’m more excited for this new game or the fact that it took them so long to get the color management right.
